Try to set browser.startup.page to 0 (zero) on the about:config page. Browser.startup.page = 0 You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click 'I accept the risk!'

Background
Each time the web browser starts, this preference is consulted to determine what to display. It has superseded browser.sessionstore.resume_session as the preference determining whether saved sessions are restored.
Possible values and their effects

Start with a blank page (about:blank).
